Whitebark Restaurant, Bar & Lounge at the Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, California offers chic mountain dining with creative cuisine.

Located in the Westin Monarche Resort, Mammoth, Whitebark Restaurant, Bar & Lounge offers a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. The understated elegance of the restaurant is warm and inviting and incorporates the surrounding environment through the use of rock and natural wood decor. The menu features creative cuisine with a focus on fresh ingredients. Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director Brando Brocia says, "We go well beyond ‘traditional’ fare with culinary creativity. For example, French and Asian influences are on the same menu.” Room service is also available.

SuperFood for Breakfast

With the plethora of outdoor activities in Mammoth, fueling up before heading out is essential. To start your morning off on the right foot, try the SuperFoods menu inspired by Dr. Steven Pratt, author of SuperFoods Rx: Fourteen Foods That Will Change Your Life. The breakfast items are made with “powerhouse ingredients rich in nutrients and antioxidants” such as blueberries, nuts, and yogurt. Light options include the Salmon and Tofu Bagel with avocado, olive oil and tomato ($12), or an Egg White Omelet with broccoli, fresh basil, white onion, topped with Wisconsin cheddar cheese, served with breakfast potatoes and roasted tomatoes ($13). For those wanting to indulge, the Grand Marnier French Toast with sweet crème ($12) is a quite a treat. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Midday Menu Poolside

After an active morning, lounge by the pool and soak up some sunshine while enjoying fresh fare served poolside during the warmer months. The lunch menu includes traditional items such as sandwiches and salads, but with a sophisticated twist. The chef's creativity is evident with dishes such as the Kobe Dogs served in a pretzel roll with pickle spears, caramelized onions and horse radish mustard ($12), or the Raspberry BBQ Chicken Salad with cilantro lime chicken breast, black beans, white corn, roasted poblano, sundried tomatoes tossed in a cilantro buttermilk dressing ($16). Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Deluxe Sushi Bar

In addition to the dinner menu, Whitebark now also has a full-service sushi bar. Pull up a chair and watch the chef prepare fresh sushi rolls while you wait. Chef Brando says,“We’re commitment to using only the freshest, environmentally friendly items, such as sushi from line-caught fish purchased from a company committed to sustainability."

Signature rolls include the Monache Torched with snow crab, avocado, cucumber, topped with dynamite scallops and truffled micro wasabi ($18) and the Whitebark Crunch with shrimp tempura, snow crab, cucumber, sprout, mint, lime, rice cracker ($15). There is also a full selection of sashimi items such as Maguro (tune), Hiramasa (yellowtail), Tako (octopus), Unagi (freshwater eel), and Ikura (salmon roe). Vegetarians can also partake in the Asian cuisine with a plate of vegetable tempura. To compliment the meal, the restaurant also carries seven types of sake, as well as Japanese beers and green tea. Dinner is served from 5 p.m.

Unwind in the Lounge

After an exhilarating day exploring the mountains, relax in the Whitebark Bar & Lounge during the evening "Unwind" event. Enjoy dim lighting, soothing music and a chance to take in the view of the majestic surrounding wilderness. With an extensive drink menu, guests can chill with friends or family over a glass of their favorite wine, a microbrew from Mammoth Brewing Company, or try one of the signature cocktails such as the Monache Margarita made with casadores reposado tequila, cointreau, fresh lemon & lime juices, served on the rocks with salt ($9). Non-alcoholic beverages also available. The Lounge opens at 4 p.m. daily.
